3rd April 2012 – New York
The following statement was issued by the delegation of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations Security Council:
“On, 3rd April, the delegates of the Security Council member-states will meet in an emergency session of the Council due to the recent events in Syria.
These events come as a great concern to China. We have been following closely the developments in Syria and have continuously promoted political dialogue, respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Syria as well of the will of the Syrian people. We are appalled that some countries give no significance to these fundamental principles of international law. Furthermore, we call on all actors to cease violence at once and cooperate with Mr. Annan’s mediation process. We also call on all other States to refrain from interference into domestic affairs of Syria. In accordance with our independent foreign policy of peace and commitment to uphold regional and world peace and stability we urge all actors to stop the efforts of internationalization of the conflict. These acts are in contrast with the provisions of the UN Charter that provides the basis of the modern international community.
We
also categorically deny any allegations based on Western intelligence
services and we urge the States to refrain from any reckless acts that
could lead to worsening of relations in the international community and
could cause a major setback in our common search for global harmony.”
